After Tulum we moved to Valladolid, a town away from the coast and a lot less touristy. We stayed in "Maison del Marques", which had a lovely garden atrium where we had breakfast and drank their marvelous fruit juices.

Stalls opposite the hotel
The hotel is on the main square and every morning women in huipíles set up stalls opposite.

Love seats in the square
It was nice to sit in the square in the late afternoon and eat ice-cream and watch the world go by.

Cenote Zaci
We went to see the Monastery, which was closed and one of the city's cenotes, Zaci, which has a very depressing zoo.

Tree roots in Cenote Samula
We also visited the much more impressive Cenotes Samula and Dzitnup which are a few miles outside town. As in Tulum, prices for taxis seemed to be fixed. We didn't swim in them, but we wished we had - it was very hot. There were changing rooms at both cenotes and local children were swimming in Samula.
Valladolid Collectivo
From Valladolid we visited Chichen Itza and Ek Bahlam then went on to Merida.
